Village Hall News January 2008 The Thursday Club have kindly donated a brand new projection screen to the Hall and have put it up on the back wall of the stage. This is a good size and will be very useful for groups who have speakers who wish to project slides etc. Many thanks to them for their gift it is much appreciated. October 2007 The new gate to the Hall entrance has now been installed but as yet is not locked. The main Hall floor is having some maintenance done, although it still looks great, as it's been 2 & a half years since it was done and we want to keep it in tip top condition. A couple of months ago one of the window panes was smashed, only breaking the outer glass, so this has been replaced, more expense! May 2007 The third Xpelair fan is now complete and it seems to be making a great difference to the smell of the Hall. The path down the side of the Hall, where the windows are, has been tarmac'd and so too has the path in front of the Hall. We have also installed some bulkhead lights down the side to give light for the path and the grass area. Unfortunately one of the flood lights has been smashed so we need to get a new glass for it and we now have a problem with youths hanging around in their cars wheel spinning in the car park! So now we have to look at putting a gate at the entrance road to stop cars going down there! These morons don't realise how much money they are draining from the Halls funds it's a pity they have to ruin it for everyone else! It would be nice if we could get this idiots to help pay towards the damage and security costs, oh look a flying pig!!!!!!!!!!!! March 2007 The Village Hall Committee would like to make it clear that the person spreading the malicious gossip around the village, that the Hall is being demolished and houses built in its place, is wrong! We have no intension of doing this and never have! Two new large replacement extractor fans have now been installed & a third new one is nearly finished which will be put on a timer to come on in the early hours to extract all the old stale air which should also alleviate the smell problem even more. The Village Hall Committee wish to thank Xpelair for supplying us with the 3 extractors & controllers at cost price, basically we got the third one free, & there excellent customer service in dealing with this, thank you very much. January 2007 Due to ever increasing running costs i.e. electricity price increases, the letting costs will increase from 1st April 2007 for the Hall. May 2006 The AGM was held at the Hall & unfortunately only a few members of the Village came to see the improvements& all the hard work which has been done! It would have been nice if we had had a bit more support & some offers of help or new members for the Hall Committee! Still, the cheese & wine was very nice indeed!!! March 2006 Three new Flood Lights have now been installed on a one hour time delay switch, these now illuminate the Car Park brilliantly! January 2006 The Balcony outside of the Bar area has now been rebuilt, a new steel base has been put down & new railings all round the outside. This had to be done as it was found to be unsafe. October 2005 Heating is now being put in the Toilets and an air curtain heater in the foyer. Two of the main Hall heaters have been replaced and the rest will be over the next year. September 2005 The new curtains for the stage and the side windows are now up and so to are the vertical blinds along the front window. They are a deep red with a small diamond pattern and the look great, they have finished the look now and with the new windows it looks very good inside now. It's a shame just before the curtains were fitted one of the new windows was broken, more expense to the Hall, it amazes me that no one heard or saw anything! These kids are ruining things that they will need themselves in years to come! The main Hall floor has now been completely stripped & resurfaced by a professional flooring company & it is fantastic! It looks like new & seems to be staying that way too! August 2005 New sinks and vanity units have been put in the men's and ladies Toilets with concealed water heaters, hot and cold running water from the taps now! Very posh! July 2005 The top Car Park has now been resurfaced with tarmac and what an improvement it makes, it's never looked so good! April 2005 The windows and the side fire exit down the side of the Hall have all now been replaced with double glazed PVC windows. The soffet and guttering above have also now been replaced and it looks very smart and tidy. The new windows should help keep the hall warm and sound proof it a little bit more. Over the next 2-3 weeks the main Hall floor is being stripped and resurfaced by a specialist floor company and the sinks and water heaters are being replaced in the toilets, it's all happening!! December 2004 The Floors in the toilets, bar & stage-side room have now been resurfaced with marble effect flooring & they certainly make the hall look different. The entrance has also been covered with door mat material & the glass has been replaced in the front doors. Our next job soon is to replace all the sinks & water heaters in the toilets & to install heating in them too. We now have two new full size cookers both with 4 rings, top oven, grill & main fan oven in the kitchen August 2004 Over the next few months a major renovation plan will be put into motion. The things to be done over the next year or so will be: new taps & sinks in the toilets, heaters in the toilets, outside flood-lighting, new flooring in the toilets & the Bar area, the main hall floor to be stripped & resurfaced, new windows down the side of the hall, new curtains, resurfacing of the car park & the disabled ramp & parking area at the front of the hall July 2004 A remote controlled roller shutter has been purchased, at great expense to the Hall, and installed to prevent any further damage to the front doors. These will be repaired shortly when funds are available. April 2004 Sadly the new doors have been seriously vandalized, all the double glazed units have been smashed & the cost of replacing & repairing will be nearly half as much as they cost. It is a great shame that people have children which are so destructive, mindless & senseless! October 2003 The new Aluminium, Double Glazed, front doors have now been fitted. The new doors certainly make a difference to the appearance, sound proof wise & draft wise! Our next small tasks are to finish the floor in the foyer up to the new doors & to replace the sinks & taps in the toilets. The next major task is to get funds for, & build, the disabled ramp & parking at the front of the Hall. June 2003 We applied for another 'Grants For All' Lottery Grant in April to carry-on our Disabled access programme. We are now proud to announce it has been accepted & now stage 2 of 4 can now commence. This is the removal of the front doors & surround & replacement with double glazed aluminium Extra wide doors. We are very grateful for the continued support of the Lottery & hope they will continue to help us to get this major improvement completed. We have almost completed the installation of a stainless steel sink in the bar area, with a water heater. This will enable the Bar staff to wash glasses there & keep the Kitchen sinks free for the Caterers. This also will be useful for people who do not wish to hire the Kitchen but just to be able to boil a kettle & wash-up a few cups etc. The Hall is going from strength to strength & it is being hired the most it has been for years! We hope this keeps up as we will be able to make more improvements to make it an even bigger asset to the Village April 2003 We have applied for another grant for stage 2 of our disabled access programme & await with fingers crossed! June 2002 The floor in the foyer and disabled toilet has been done and what a difference it has made. The Jubilee dance was a great evening, the Hall and Marquee were decorated with bunting, balloons and flags. It looked great, pictures of the evening will be on the site soon. There was many raffle prizes which were all wrapped in gold paper and a special commemorative Jubilee mug was given for the draw of the entrance ticket. A good time was had by all those who came, it wasn't a capacity crowd but plenty for it to rock well into the morning. May 2002 The new front windows have now been fitted to the front of the Hall, as you will see on the new Home page picture. The Disabled Toilet has now been decorated. The next thing to be done will be the flooring in the entrance and the Disabled Toilet. April 2002 The Village Hall committee has been awarded a National Lottery 'Awards For All' grant for full payment of the Marquee for the Golden Jubilee Dance to be held on 8th June. This is great news as more can be spent on the evening to make it a little bit more special. March 2002 The disabled toilet has now been built and only needs decorating it was completed in less than a week! The next stage to this will be to build a new entrance ramp for wheelchairs at the front of the hall. February 2002 The Hall floor is now complete, and looking great, new heaters are now installed in the Kitchen & Bar Area & Foyer. These were paid for by the money raised at the film night held in November. The decoration is still ongoing & will be so for several months. The Hall is looking good & the ceiling in the bar & ladies toilet has now been artexed & new lighting has been installed in the Bar Area & both toilets as well. The Bar area will now be suitable for small meetings as it can be shut off from the rest of the hall. There is a lot more refurbishment planned for this year & still a lot more to do. We are getting there! In 2001 the Hall was hired for the most amount of times in a long time & 2002 is looking good too! November 2001 Onwards The Hall is being redecorated through-out over a period of months by community services. The entrance to the Hall is now clad with pine boards as part of the ongoing refurbishment program October 2001 The Hall has just been awarded an 'Awards For All' grant by the National Lottery to put a disabled toilet in the hall. The award was presented to the Chairman of the trustee's, Owen Hawkes, and members of the hall committee by the band 'The Beavers' just before the start of our Autumn dance.
